15 years ago we started our journey with "the spear of destiny".
Over fifteen years ago, I embarked on a very personal adventure: with a borrowed camera, homemade cardboard props, and an irrepressible desire to create something of my own, I shot the fan film “Indiana Jones – The Spear of Destiny” with friends. The southern German backdrop, the cave set in my parents' basement, and the jump into ice-cold water replaced expensive locations and big-budget technology. The idea was clear: if I could never get enough of Indiana Jones, why not add a chapter myself? The Augsburger Allgemeine newspaper called me the “Indiana Jones from the Fuggerstadt” at the time, a nickname that makes me smile but also makes me proud. Today, with Shadows of Atlantis, I am picking up where I left off.
After the fan film “Indiana Jones – The Spear of Destiny” in 2009, it was clear to me that this was just the beginning. What started as a passionate labor of love with friends became a springboard for further cinematic adventures with new genres, new faces, and new challenges.
Just one year after the premiere, the journey continued: Together with producer Matthias Baumgartner, a 45-minute action film in the style of a spy thriller was created.
For me, it was an exciting next step. The passion for adventure, handmade stories, and visual energy remained, but the world in which it took place became bigger. The dust of Egyptian ruins became high-tech laboratories.
And that's where the circle slowly closes: With Shadows of Atlantis, I'm not only returning to adventure films, but also to the roots of my passion, which began in 2009 with a homemade set in my basement.
